Friday & Saturday, August 26 & 27, 2011

Please join The Victory Project as we perform a series of performance installations, solos and trios developed during our research/movement development period. These studies will focus on the female body as a representation of the nation state and victory in art and literature from the 17th century to present day. Movement by Erica Mott, Silvia Diaz-Brown, Joy Davis, and Karen Faith.

Live Mixing by Ryan Ingibritsen.

The Victory Project is a multi-year inquiry and thematic umbrella for multi-disciplinary artistic responses to women’s bodies and notions of victory. This year is focused on an evening length work that incorporates image, text, movement and elements of puppetry to dismantle body parts and allegories that confuse and conflate patriotism and perversity.

It is presented as a series of delicate and intimate duets between mundane objects and the human body awkwardly juxtaposed with visually arresting and sometimes disturbing chorus pieces creating darkly humorous shifts in tone and rhythm.

The Victory Project is supported by a generous grant from Chicago Dance Makers Forum through their Lab Artist Fellowship Program, The Illinois Arts Council Individual Projects Grant and the Richard H. Driehuas Foundation.
